This very nice young man calls me aside last night and says he heard I’m finding work for people and he would like to work very much, guarding cars and collecting tins is not what he wants to do for the rest of his life … I asked him, okay what can you do, he says anything, he’ll do anything, paint, maintenance etc …

He says madam, I want to prepare food, I can prepare food, I’ve been preparing food for three years at Knight Rider cafe before they closed that time …
It’s so sad, these guys on the street forget their passion, and are only willing to do anything for some money.
I feel so bad that I often overlook the quiet ones (the gems), I’ve known him for more than a year, and never knew he could cook ..
Now I want to ask, even if homeless people are not your passion, just reach out to one, you can change someone’s life, without costing you a cent, there is NOT a more amazing feeling than knowing that you had something to do with restoring one’s dignity, self proud, call it what you want – and you were part because you showed interest, you gave someone hope …

Ruth and Cenci (“the Chef”) does an amazing job on the streets of Pretoria North taking care of the homeless. Everyday after work they start preparing meals for close to 200 people and then start doing their rounds at eight in the evening, dishing out food and attending to minor injuries. Not only do they feed these people sleeping in the streets, they also find donations in all forms to clothe them, assist them with finding jobs, organise lifts to hospitals when needed, and even educate when the need arise.
Their ultimate goal is to find suitable space from where they can run a shelter offering these street people accommodation and meals they can return to after their day in the sun working as car guards, recyclers, and simply walking the streets trying to find employment.
This couple is not a registered NPO but simply do what they feel is the right thing to do.
The costs to cover the following most basic needs easily runs into R5000 to R10000 PER WEEK :
Ruth and Cenci does receive a fair amount of monetary donations every week from donors world-wide, and also a large amount of local food donations. However, they still sponsor a large portion of these costs themselves.

Uncle Willie is going through deep waters …
Uncle Willie came to Pretoria with the promise of work which unfortunately did not realise. His mother stays in a hostel here in the north.
This is something that is very common nowadays, people are offered work and do not realize what that person gives up for it, travel to the palce of employment, and only to be told “Sorry we will keep you up to date or in mind …”.
His wife is waiting a hole without water in anticipation, and Willie sleeps on the street ..
Please people, can we not help this man – he knows.
Willie can do petrol & diesel mechanic work, CO2 welding, code 14 and PDP and have already made furniture from pallets …
This man will only be to your benefit, and it’s only him and his wife ..

This young man was very concerned about his cleanliness when we took this photo last night, and did not want to look bad.
He passed code 14 license (pdp unfortunately expired). He can do any kind mechanical work he says, diesel & petrol, diffs and gearboxes.
Please, people give the young people in the streets a chance on a future.

Anna is renting a room with her sister.

Okay, they wash cars in President Steyn and environment for an income. Now if you are in the North you should know very well, so I’m not going to bullshit anyone, we know where the money goes …
However, the plan is to market them as car washers and they will come to your house to wash your car, they have undertaken to purchase a phone by Saturday.
We advertise them by name (suggestions are welcome) and you call them to come to your house to wash your car. They are really good !!
In doing so, they may just make enough space to rent a room, and get some human dignity back …
As you all know , we are trying to help the single mom with food, fridge etc. but especially work – they live in a wendy between Pretoria North & Orchards.
Usually we do not ask for financial donations, but the problem we are facing now is that mom can not attend interviews as far as montana because of lack of money for petrol. Collecting donations is also a problem as she has a car but not petrol money.

Due to circumstances beyond this mother of 3’s control, she was left to her own grace with three kiddies, they currently live in a Wendy between Pretoria North & Orchards. The children are attending school in Pretoria North.
There is already a benefactor who pays the R1500 rent of the Wendy.
Here is a big need of food, anything you can save, the baby was born recently.
In addition to the obvious needs here, we need to improve their standard of living.
Here is so much needed here that I do not even know what to ask. Certainly a fridge.
It was impossible to search for a job for her while she was pregnant but now we have to.
Previous experience includes childcare, caregiver, nursery school experience, rugby club and bar lady purchases, guys she will try anything, she is sharp, oldest is 15, 8, and three weeks …
